AI Digital Twin vs AI Avatar vs Voice Clone vs AI Clone Chatbot

An AI avatar copies your face, a voice clone your voice, a clone chatbot your knowledge. A digital twin service combines all three. How they compare.

By William Seow, AI Sales Expert Published

An AI avatar copies how you look, a voice clone copies how you sound, and an AI clone chatbot copies what you know so it can answer questions. A full AI digital twin service combines all three and adds the work around them: scripting from your expertise, production, captions and publishing, with you approving each piece.

Key takeaways

  • AI avatar (HeyGen, Synthesia): a video likeness that reads a script you supply.
  • Voice clone (ElevenLabs): your voice, generated from text, with no video.
  • AI clone chatbot (Delphi, and real-time video agents such as Tavus): answers questions in your style, one conversation at a time.
  • Full digital twin service: avatar plus voice plus a knowledge layer, run for you, producing content for your channels.
  • Pick by the job: publishing to an audience, answering individuals, or narrating audio. Prices checked 28 Oct 2026.

Why do these terms get mixed up?

Vendors use the same words for different things. HeyGen calls its custom avatar “a digital twin that only appears with their verified permission”. Captions calls its likeness feature an “AI Twin”. Delphi and its peers are often described as “AI clones”. Meanwhile, in Singapore, “digital twin” is also widely used for engineering and city models such as Virtual Singapore.

So it helps to define each by what it copies and what it outputs.

What is an AI avatar?

An AI avatar is a video model of a person’s face and on-camera presence. You record a short clip, the platform builds the avatar, and from then on you type a script and receive a video of “you” saying it.

What it does well: fast, repeatable talking-head video. What it does not do: decide what to say. The script quality is entirely up to you.

What is a voice clone?

A voice clone is a model of your voice that turns text into speech. ElevenLabs is the best-known example and offers two kinds on its pricing page: Instant Voice Cloning from the Starter plan, and Professional Voice Cloning from the Creator plan upwards.

What it does well: podcasts, narration, voiceovers, audio versions of articles, dubbing. What it does not do: show your face. On social platforms built around video, voice alone usually needs to be paired with visuals.

Many avatar tools include their own voice cloning, so you may not need a separate voice product if you are already using an avatar platform.

What is an AI clone chatbot?

An AI clone chatbot is trained on a person’s content and answers questions as that person would. Delphi is one of the best-known examples. Its pricing page lists a Scaler plan for running “your Delphi on your own channels”, with “Pro voice calls” and a training allowance measured in words, and an Immortal tier that adds text and WhatsApp.

SaaStr published the learnings from 1,000,000 AI conversations with clones of several well-known operators, simulated by Delphi’s CEO, Dara Ladjevardian. It is a useful read if you are considering this route.

A related category is the real-time video agent. Tavus describes its product as “real-time, lifelike AI agents that can see, hear, respond, and even look like us”. These are conversational, not publishing tools.

What it does well: answering many individual questions at any hour. What it does not do: build an audience. A chatbot waits to be asked; it does not appear in anyone’s feed.

What is a full AI digital twin service?

A full digital twin service combines the face, the voice and the knowledge, and then runs the production for you. The difference is less about the technology and more about who does the work:

  1. Your avatar and voice are created once, with your consent.
  2. Your expertise is captured, usually through interviews or recorded calls.
  3. Scripts are written from that expertise, in your phrasing.
  4. Videos are produced, captioned and scheduled.
  5. You review and approve before anything is published.

What it does well: a steady flow of on-brand content without filming or learning tools. What it does not do: cost the same as a software subscription, because people are doing the scripting, production and publishing.

How do they compare side by side?

Which one should you choose?

Choose an AI avatar tool if you will write and edit yourself

If you already have scripts, like editing and have a few hours a week, a tool like HeyGen or Synthesia is the most cost-effective way to get talking-head video. You keep full control and pay a software price.

Choose a voice clone if your format is audio

If you run a podcast, record narrated explainers or need voiceovers in several languages, a voice clone is the simplest and cheapest option.

Choose a chatbot clone if people already ask you the same questions

If your audience is large enough that you cannot answer everyone, a Delphi-style clone can handle the long tail of questions. It does not create content for your feed, so it is a complement to publishing, not a replacement.

Choose a full service if your time is the constraint

If you know your subject but cannot find the hours to script, produce and post, a done-for-you twin service shifts that work off your plate. You trade a higher monthly cost for your time back.

Where does Aires fit?

Aires is a done-for-you AI digital twin service based in Singapore. In the terms above, it sits in the “full digital twin service” column:

  • Avatar and voice: your AI twin is produced on HeyGen.
  • Knowledge: a monthly 60-minute Knowledge Download call feeds the Knowledge Vault, which Aires uses to write scripts in your terms and frameworks.
  • Output: 4, 12 or 20 vertical AI Digital Twin videos a month depending on plan, with captions, hashtags and scheduling, and branded stills on the top plan.
  • Replies: plans include an AI-powered Instant Response System on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Control: every piece of content is sent to you for approval before it is published.

Aires is not a chatbot clone in the Delphi sense, and it is not a self-serve software subscription. If you want to write and edit everything yourself, an avatar tool will be cheaper.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an AI avatar and an AI digital twin?

An AI avatar is the visual layer: a video likeness that reads a script. A full AI digital twin combines that avatar with a clone of your voice and a knowledge layer that writes in your words, so the output sounds like you as well as looking like you.

Is a voice clone enough for content marketing?

It works well for audio formats such as podcasts, voiceovers and narrated explainers. For short-form social video, where faces drive attention, most professionals pair a voice clone with a video avatar.

What is an AI clone chatbot?

It is a conversational AI trained on a person’s content that answers questions in their style, by text and sometimes by voice. Delphi is a well-known example. It talks with people one to one rather than publishing videos.

Reputable ones do. HeyGen and Synthesia both require recorded consent from the person whose likeness is used before creating a custom avatar.

Which option is cheapest?

A voice clone is usually cheapest, with ElevenLabs paid plans starting at US$6 a month as of 28 Oct 2026. Paid avatar plans start at around US$19 to US$29 a month. Done-for-you services cost more because they include scripting, production and publishing.

Not sure which type fits you?

If you are weighing a DIY tool against a done-for-you twin, Aires is happy to talk it through on a free 15-minute call. We will tell you honestly if a software tool on its own would serve you better.
